Dear Newly Elected or Appointed ChiefCongratulations to you upon your recent election or appointment as Chief of Police. The Louisiana Law Enforcement Executive Management Institute (LEEMI) is dedicated to assisting you in enhancing your professional development, particularly in the areas of your administrative responsibilities. This letter is to inform you that as a Chief of Police elected or appointed after January 1, 2004, you are required by law to complete the New Chief Management Course offered by the Law Enforcement Executive Management Institute (LEEMI), within one year of your election or appointment. This is cited in Louisiana Revised Statue 33:2345. Failure to comply with this training may result in forfeiture of supplemental pay. The next New Chief Management Course will be held in Spring of 2010. Please check back for more information. As a recently elected or appointed Chief of Police, you qualify for reimbursement of lodging and food expenses. However, there will be no reimbursement for costs of lodging for anyone whose place of employment is within 30 miles of the place of training. There is no charge to you for this training. The thirty-two (32) hour New Chief Management Course is taught over five consecutive days. Upon successful completion of the New Chief Management Course you will receive a plaque in recognition of your advanced training. All instructional materials will be provided. Dress for the class is casual. We would encourage you to wear your uniform or a coat and tie for graduation ceremonies and a group photograph at the end of the class.
